Gautam Gambhir Thinks Cricketers Will Have to Live with the COVID-19 Dangers

Former India opener Gautam Gambhir doesn't see any major changes in the way cricket will be played in the future after the global pandemic novel coronavirus will end. Even using saliva on the ball has also been banned. However, the International Cricket Council is thinking of the legalization of the usage of some artificial substances to shine the ball instead of using saliva.

"I don't think a lot of rules and regulations will be changed, you can probably have an alternate for the usage of saliva apart from that I don't think so many changes will happen," Gautam Gambhir told Star Sports. "Players and everyone else need to live with this virus; probably they have to get used to it that there is a virus and that it will be around. Players might end up catching it, and you got to live with it."

However, social distancing is possible in cricket too if it can be played in empty stadiums but it will be tough when sporting action resumes after the COVID-19 gets better, shared the former player.

"Social distancing and other rules may not be easy for any sport to maintain. You can still manage to do it with cricket, but how will you do it in football, hockey, and other sports as well. So, I think you just have to live with it, probably the sooner you accept it, the better it is," Gambhir concluded.

Coronavirus pandemic has so far claimed more than 2.6 lakh lives across the globe and also affected several people as well. This has already postponed or canceled every sporting event across the globe, including the IPL 2020 for the indefinite time period.

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly had already said that there will be no cricket in the country for the foreseeable future amid the coronavirus pandemic. With the increasing rate of death and effect of COVID-19, there is uncertainty over the T20 World Cup which is supposed to be played in Australia in October-November.
